Legislative Directors,
Early Voting and Election Day is right around the corner.
I know this is now my third email asking for names, dates and times of the volunteers for Assemblyman Abbate, however we need to start setting up the schedule so we need the names.
NYSPEC currently consists of 85 member unions. To date I have only received 23 names from 6 unions. I am hopeful that some of you may have sent in names directly to Lisa, Chris Black or Frank Tramantano besides myself.
I repeat hopeful because if all we have at this time is 23 names that is quite upsetting and embarrassing to say the least. Assemblyman Abbate has asked for our help for the first time in years. We need to show up for him. Every one of us over the years have relied on his leadership and support for our individual legislation as well as key legislation for the NYSPEC. Now is the time for all of us to give a little back.
He will need many volunteers primarily on the weekend before Election Day
November 4 & 5 and a large number on Election Day
Most important will be the number of volunteers we can put out on Election Day from the time the polls open at 6am until they close.
We need bodies for the following dates –
October 29 and 30
November 5 and 6
November 8 This is when we will need the most
He is going to need bodies at every site: 3 to 4 people per site. On October 29 & 30 and November 5 & 6, the polls will be open from 9am to 5pm. On election day, November 8, the polls will be open from 6am to 9pm. We can split the times with people being there from 9am to 1pm and then from 1pm to 5pm on the weekends, and in four-hours shifts on election day if we have enough bodies.
Volunteers will work in teams of two, handing out his literature at the polling sites (following the restriction of being a minimum 100-feet distance to the site).
The volunteers will report to Peter’s Democratic Club located at 7321 15th Avenue (right off the Belt Parkway) From there you will be dispatched to your particular polling site.
We need to show Assemblyman Abbate how much he means to us.
In Unity,
Peter D. Meringolo
NYSPEC
Chairman
